There are a few. More than a few really but one that I struggle with/live by is from Maya Angelou. It's roughly, when someone tells/shows you who they are, believe them the first time. I struggle with it because I am a forgiving person, wanting to believe in the good in people. And you should. But this quote is more about character. Actions are often influenced by our character but sometimes we aren't ourselves. We do something that is "out of character." Point is, separate the two. Is this a misguided action that is "ooc" or is this action indicative of who this person is? That's the line. Use it.
